Affordable Housing

Affordable housing has long been an issue in Massachusetts and elsewhere. In 1969, the state enacted a statute, Chapter 40B, to help address the shortage of affordable housing statewide by reducing unnecessary barriers created by local approval processes, local zoning, and other restrictions. The Plymouth Affordable Housing Trust was empowered to identify housing needs and housing opportunities for all income levels, while at the same time preserving our Town’s character and resources.
LWV of the Plymouth area has been very active in supporting affordable housing in Plymouth. Our Affordable Housing Trust Observer Corps began monitoring Trust meetings in September of 2023.
